Have you heard the buzz? This year the Iringa International School has five new teachers coming on board! Here are the personal bios of four of them!
Alexander Klose: A native of Washington, DC, Alexander has taught high school for the past two years in Berkeley, California. Last summer he organized and led a trip to Mexico for thirteen of his students, and this summer he completed his M.Ed. in ESL at George Mason University In Virginia. A lover of all types of music, Klose began studying flamenco guitar in 2002 during a year abroad in Seville, Spain. After living in Spain, Klose moved to Norway, where he worked in a preschool, and performed traditional music with a Norwegian folk choir. In addition to music, Klose enjoys sports of all kinds, as well as hiking and birdwatching. He was a competitive swimmer throughout high school and college, and has coached several youth teams.
Erin Miles: Erin is a graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia in the United States. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish Language, Dance and Movement Studies and a minor in Political Science. She has taught for two years in public schools in Baltimore, Maryland and has taught ESL in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2002. She was recently certified as an ESL teacher through the BridgeTEFL organization and is currently an active member of local Baltimore community organizations. She is excited about meeting her students in Tanzania and cannot wait for a productive school year as the P6 teacher!
Warren Reed Warren D. M. Reed, and was born in England to a British mum and American dad. He has lived in different Western European countries until he was 14 when he moved to the United States. He is excited to be sharing the experience at Iringa International School with his family. He majored in French as an undergraduate and graduate student and hold a second Master's of Fine Arts Degree in Creative Writing. After teaching in France for a year, the teaching bug has been with him ever since and has spent the last three years teaching French at Hickory Middle School in Chesapeake, Virginia, United States. Warren is interested in many things, and particularly enjoys playing guitar, djembe and harmonica, has written and published fiction writing, and loves studying history, human cultures and coming to Iringa will satifsy his lifelong goal to live and work in a country in Africa.
Loren Treisman
Loren Treisman will be teaching Science and Mathematics at secondary level and is really excited and honoured to be part of such a wonderful school. She holds a PhD from Cambridge University in England, which investigated the Genetics of breast cancer. She also holds a First class degree in Biological Sciences (Genetics) from Birmingham University where she came top of her year. Her teaching experience is diverse, including university supervisions and practical demonstrations, private tuition, working in a wide range of schools in the UK and giving scientific workshops in primary schools around Cambridge. However, her interests stretch far beyond academia. She has been travelling around East and Southerm Africa during the last 8 months, as well as volunteering in rural areas of Uganda with an HIV charity where she independently set up a variety of income generating schemes and was involved in a wide range of educational projects. She also enjoys such hobbies as diving, meditation and yoga, charity work, writing a novel and poetry, the list could go on and on......!
