2008-2009 Highlights
Saturday, 23 May - It's the PTA Fun Day - "Summer Fete"
2:30-6:00 pm at IIS
It promises to be even more fun this year, with the return of soak the teachers, trampolines, tombola, guess the weight of the cake, coconut shy and more, PLUS new additions including go-kart rides, beat the goalkeeper, a bouncy castle, may pole and more. Don't miss it!

MARCH 2009
Primary students have been decorating the walkways to welcome parents for Student Led Conferences on the 24th.

Seniors had a successful bake sale on Saturday the 21st.  Highlights of the day included some very wet water fights and the  football matches, in which, for the first time in history, the parents beat the students in the "mamas" vs. "girls" game.

The Primary Student Council organized a family fun day at Riverside Camp on the 7th, and the Community Service held a bake sale. It was a lovely afternoon enjoyed by many of our primary students and their parents.

Sr. Student Council 's Bake Sale Deluxe - with a water fight and different football matches - for seniors/pimaries and one for girls/mamas only! - is coming up on the 21st of March. Don't miss it!

Student Led Conferences will be held on 24th March.

February 2009
IIS's first Artist in Residence (AiR) programme was a great success. Energy was high Saturday the 7th of Feb, as Mwanaima and Fujo led us all in dancing away the rain.  Each class, including seniors and teachers/parents, got to show what they learned – and how well they did in one short week of Artists in Residence!  Though the drums are no longer beating all day long, we still feel them in our veins.  IIS’s first AiR was a memorable week for all.

That same weekend, IIS played host to 20 students and 5 teachers from Morogoro International School .  MIS arrived Friday evening, and some of their students immediately joined our seniors for a dance lesson.  In addition to the sports (see below), many of our students joined MIS for a delicious picnic lunch provided by our PTA, and those who have been practicing jump rope got to show off their tricks – which were quite impressive.  After the AiR performance, MIS students and our seniors set aside any sporting differences and came together for the dinner/dance.  Old friendships between the schools were renewed and new ones forged between students and teachers alike.

 IIS Dominates Sports

Seniors led IIS to two resounding victories over MIS.  The action Friday was on the football pitch, where a little rain couldn’t put off the indomitable MIKUKI.  Whether it was the new red jerseys, the sting of the draw last term in Morogoro or simply the skill of our senior boys and girls… we started the weekend off with a 5-1 victory.

Saturday afternoon on the basketball court was no different.  Teamwork led to a easy win. “Your players seem to know where their teammates will be, even with their eyes closed!” commented one Morogoro teacher.  IIS came off spectacularly in its first-ever basketball game – with the amazing score of 82-9.

The Primary Football team squared up against Saba Saba school on 26 Feb, and came out well in a 1-1 draw.

January 2009

IIS Jumps!

It was an exciting and inspiring week while Michael Fry visited IIS from 19-21 January.  Michael had time not only show, but also to teach our students the basics of jump rope, double dutch and some pretty cool tricks.  He has inspired not only IIS students and teachers, but other schools as well, so we hope to keep up the energy through sharing and competitions with Morogoro International School, the Danish School and others.  Next time you’re looking for something to do, pick up a rope and get fit!

Sr. Student Council held their first Movie Night - a very successful and popular event, and raised money toward the AiR- Morogoro weekend.

It has been an action-packed term for our students and teachers.  For the first time, IIS has established Primary and Secondary Student Councils.  The Primary Student Council set right to work, organizing a Halloween Party, suggesting improvements to the school grounds, and now they are organizing another fundraiser - the Gangilonga Adventure.  Members of the senior student council helped the PTA to plan International Night.

Term One was a great one for family events, from the Halloween Party, to International Night run by the PTA, to the Family Fun Day at Kisolanza, organized by one of our families.  Our primary and secondary football teams (accompanied by a few other students as well) enjoyed a weekend of competition and joint training with Morogoro International School. And our classroom learning has been supplemented by highly educational trips, including S2's tour of the Iringa water works, P1-P2's trip comparing different types of homes, P5's visit to Unilever Tea Plantation, P3's Isimila Stone Age site trip and P4's visits to different factories and places of worship in our community.
We are looking forward to the end of term Celebration on 11th December at the Greek Club (5:30 pm) - all family and friends are welcome to see each class perform song/dance/dramas on stage at this annual event on the last day of term.
